Kick off Labor Day Weekend in Creede with our Annual Balloon Festival! Spectators and passengers gather each morning for three days (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) to participate in the launching of more than 15 balloons! Tailgate parties and evening “balloon glow” events round out the festival. Held by Creede Mining Heritage, with proceeds to benefit the restoration of the historic Sunnyside Chapel.

creede mountain run marathon raceCreede Mountain Run

Saturday morning - Open registration, all age groups! The Creede Mountain Run, established in 1987, celebrates the end of Summer and the beginning of Fall in our small mountain community. This event offers participants the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking San Juan Mountains in Colorado for 2, 12, or 22 miles (almost a marathon)!

The race begins within the town of Creede, leading racers along Main Street early in the morning, as sleepy stores open and coffee-shop patrons step onto the street to cheer racers on. The course follows Willow Creek out of town and up towards the Black Pitch. The two-milers turn back for their second mile, while the 12 and 22-mile runners continue along a steep incline up the Pitch, testing their endurance for quick altitude gain while piquing their interest with old mines hanging precariously from vertical cliffs. The 12-milers round out the Bachelor Loop, while the 22-milers climb up to the top of the Continental Divide, before making their return into Creede and the finish line.

Pre-Register or sign up at 7:30am on Saturday morning. The race starts at 9am. Awards ceremony are held Saturday afternoon. For REGISTRATION and more info visit

creede salsa fiesta tastingSalsa Fiesta

Spicing up the Labor Day weekend, Creede hosts a festival celebrating our versions of a Southwest staple. The annual Salsa Fiesta has become a hot ticket item (pun intended) and people travel from all over the country to taste test their way to a cool glass of water. The best part of this festival—you’re the judge. There are usually 15-plus stations throughout the downtown area in which local chefs and businesses try their hands at creating original salsa concoctions that fall into four categories: Red, Green, Fruit and Freestyle. There is always live music on Main Street or in Basham Park to help you dance your way to the next chip bowl.

Those who wish to brave the heat can purchase tasting tickets at the Visitor Center. Salsa Fiesta is Saturday only.
