The City of Creede supports the Creede Arts and Recreation Department which provides many beneficial activities and programs for the community. "City News," a monthly newsletter, is published by the City Manager's office. An annual subscription is available for $6.00 postage and handling. The City of Creede also has a Planning Commission composed of three residents and three trustees. In 2001, Creede received recognition from Governor Bill Owens as a "Colorado Heritage Community."
City revenues are generated through a 2% sales tax, Colorado Lottery funds, the Colorado Highway Users fund, city property taxes, and Enterprise Zones for the city water and sewer treatment facilities. The city oversees the Virginia Christensen Trust. Income from the $3 million fund is designated for community improvement projects through a grant process. The City of Creede serves as a "big brother" to the Willow Creek Reclamation Committee which works with the EPA and other government agencies to clean up mining contamination in the Willow Creek drainage from the Continental Divide to the Rio Grande.
